IoT MasterClass – Remote Patient Monitoring: Improving diagnosis and treatment of patients with Parkinson’s disease
Course Overview:
Remote patient monitoring (RPM) is emerging as a global paradigm to improve patients’ health and provide home care. It uses digital technologies to allow healthcare systems to remotely detect the early stages of a disease and monitor the symptom progression. This data allows doctors to provide customized care plans and better educate patients on self-care. Through continuous remote monitoring of the streaming medical data from patients, RPM solutions ensure timely intervention, faster & efficient diagnosis, and treatment of the condition. Consequently, RPM reduces patient visits in hospitals and automatically alerts the concerned family members/physicians in case of emergency.
In this presentation, I will demonstrate how the Internet of Things (IoT) analytics together with RPM can achieve better patient outcomes by improving diagnosis, treatment, and patient self-care.
You will learn:
- How to use RPM to quantify and monitor aspects of the MDS-UPDRS (Movement Disorders Society – Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale) questionnaire used in chartering Parkinson’s disease symptoms.
- How to efficiently stream and analyze movement data from individuals (with Parkinson’s disease and without).
- How a machine learning model classifies and identifies patients with Parkinson’s disease based on the movement data collected over several months.
- How in real-time a model tracks changes in tremors right after the intake of medicine and monitors symptoms’ progression over time.
- About the SAS solutions (SAS Visual Data Mining and Machine Learning, Model Manager, and Event Stream Processing) that implement RPM and run in Kubernetes in the Azure Cloud Platform.
- To implement the same architecture for other medical illnesses leveraging IoT.

IoT MasterClass – Hospital at Home: How IoT technologies are enabling a new model of care delivery
Course Overview:
News Flash: Nobody actually wants to go to the hospital. Thankfully, alternatives are starting to emerge. The pandemic gave rise to many innovations out of necessity. One such innovation was the shift of acute care previously reserved for hospital environments into the home setting through programs now commonly referred to as Hospital At Home. Never has the use case for IoT been greater. IoT has become an integral capability to keep these patients connected to their caregivers 24/7. Join this masterclass for an inside look into this care delivery model. School up on it’s history to appreciate how to better apply technology and what barriers still need to be tackled.
Presenter Bio:
Rich G Kenny, RN, MMCi is the SAS Health Care Industry Executive Advisor. A nurse first, his prior office used to be the back of a helicopter for Duke Life Flight where, as a nurse, he gained experience in just about every type of hospital and care setting. IoT MasterClass – Accelerating Industrial Systems Effectiveness with AI
Date / Time:
October 20th, 2022, Online, 11.00am – 13:00 US Eastern Time.
Course Overview:
Industrial systems’ effectiveness is paramount. However, conventional industrial equipment monitoring and control approaches are inefficient when it comes to the optimization of complex technological processes or systems. Optimization dilemma with multiple variables and several optimization objectives (e.g., reducing production time while maintaining quality and maintenance cost at the appropriate level) can be solved only with computational methods. Humans can typically solve problems with up to 20 variables and tradeoffs but machines can solve much more complex optimization problems with a virtually unlimited number of variables and deliver tremendous outcomes to maximize effectiveness across the entire value chain. During this session, Iurii Milovanov, SoftServe’s AI leader, will overview best practices in using AI and Data Science technologies powered by telemetry and data from MES and ERP systems to derive the most optimal configuration of the production line. Iurii will also share his design recommendations on building large-scale AI systems that leverage the full power of Cloud, IoT, and ML infrastructure using practical examples and real-life use cases.
Presenter Bio:
Iurii Milovanov, SoftServe’s Director of AI and Data Science – Iurii is actively contributing to various research and scientific communities, including his participation in the KarooGP project, a genetic programming suite used at LIGO Lab for detecting gravitational waves; SIMOC, an interactive model of a scalable, human community located on a remote planet; and DRLearner project, the first open-source implementation of Google’s Deep Reinforcement Learning (DQN) algorithm for playing ATARI games.

David Hill, Executive Director of the IoT Community: “We are excited to welcome Synadia to our IoT Community ecosystem as a gold-level corporate member, in addition to adding a tech pioneer in Derek Collison to our Advisory Board. The edge is at the forefront of the IoT Community’s focus and Synadia is significantly helping to transform the Edge of Things which makes this a great fit for our ecosystem. We look forward to working with the Synadia team, to accelerate the uptake and evolution of the industrial and enterprise edge.
From multicloud to microservices and event streaming, to modern cloud-native applications and Kubernetes, the future of technology is distributed computing and intelligence. Synadia makes the connective data fabric that enables this future — multi-cloud, multi-geo, edge aware, real-time, highly-available, scalable, persistent and secure.
Synadia NGS — Connecting the Edge of Things as-a-Service
NGS is a global, multi-cloud, multi-geo and extensible messaging and data streaming service, fully managed by Synadia. By connecting to NGS, enterprises can rapidly deploy distributed applications to a global customer base with strong security and encryption without configuring firewalls, load balancers or specific cloud infrastructure. Developers can also easily extend NGS to on-premise or edge environments while ensuring data privacy and support of GDPR requirements.
Synadia’s connective fabric is powered by NATS.io, a Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) sponsored project that is used by millions across the globe. An open source project with a large community, NATS is deployed in production in tens of thousands of environments by leading brands in finance, industrials, energy and online games. Synadia is the core maintainer of NATS.
Synadia’s solutions make cloud and intelligent edge computing easy with 100% cloud portability, ultra-low latency, and the flexibility to run in low resource environments with intermittent network connectivity making it the preferred platform for IoT and Edge developers across manufacturing, retail, healthcare, gaming and energy industries.
Dr. Tom Bradicich, Hewlett Packard Fellow, at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and IoT Community Advisory Board Chair: “We are pleased to have Synadia join us in the IoT Community, and welcome Derek Collison to the Advisory Board. We look forward to advancing our vision of an open, secure, and intelligent edge, collaborating across our IoT Community.”
Synadia’s corporate membership adds to the elite IoT Community ecosystem, composed of the biggest names in technology and household names across the IoT industry. Over the past 7 years, the IoT Community has engaged with industry leaders to create the most compelling and trusted thought leadership content in the IoT ecosystem.
Derek Collison, Founder & CEO, Synadia: “Becoming a gold member of the IoT Community is an honor for Synadia, and I am excited to join the IoT Community Advisory Board. Together, we can help share industry learnings and best practices at a core level on critical issues we see from industrial and enterprise IoT & edge deployments. I look forward to working with other community members to help create the framework for the IoT Community’s many IoT Center of Excellence initiatives.”
Also at the IoT Slam Live conference, Derek Collison, will deliver a spotlight Keynote address titled: Rethinking Connectivity – Hyper-Connectivity and the Intelligent Edge will drive innovation and push us to rethink how we connect the world’s digital systems services and devices.
